    “Motherhood” Goes Freestyle

    Posted on 09 July, 2009 | 1 Comment

Freestyle Releasing has announced that it will distribute Katherine Dieckmann’s “Motherhood” from iDeal Partners Film Fund and Killer Films. The comedy, starring Uma Thurman, Minnie Driver and Anthony Edwards, premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and will open in October 2009 in theaters across the country. Produced by Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon for Killer Films and Jana Edelbaum and Rachel Cohen for iDeal Partners, the film stars Thurman as a mother of two prepping for her daughter’s sixth birthday party as an endless array of urban challenges confront her. Driver and Edwards co-star as Thurman’s best friend and husband.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with our friends at iDeal and Killer Films on the distribution of this funny and poignant film,” Freestyle Co-Presidents Mark Borde and Susan Jackson said in a statement. “With a top-notch cast, ‘Motherhood’ is truly a fresh look at the joys of being a parent. We look forward to bringing this film into the marketplace.”

“From the outset, ‘Motherhood’ has been a labor of love for us,” iDeal Partners and Killer Films in a joint statement said. “As a collection of female filmmakers we immediately took to the humor and honesty of the project. We are thrilled to now bring it to audiences, with whom we are certain it will resonate.”

indieWIRE interviewed both Dieckmann and Thurman upon the film’s premiere in Park City. “It’s rare to find material like this. One thing I’ve been pretty good at is feeling good writing,” Thurman said at the time. “I have a good eye for that and my favorite thing is to find writing about our experience now as people – contemporary material that is looking at our lives today. That’s my favorite, if you can call it, genre. And finding contemporary, humorous but dramatic writing that is fresh and open-eyed in the moment is very difficult.”
