Last Update:
It was announced in early 2007 that Uma Thurman would lead NTL’s campaign to rebrand itself as Virgin Media (UK). The star is to be at the forefront of a £25 million advertising campaign, which hit TVs in February, telling consumers about the name change at the company and that it now offers mobile phones and broadband as well as fixed line telephones and television.
In March Virgin Media announced it had lost almost 47,000 customers in the first three months of 2007, and was replacing the expensive campaign featuring Thurman with four new TV ads starring comedienne Ruby Wax. Apparently the campaign featuring Uma turned out to be a huge success and a great relief to the struggling cable operator, but in the end it was too expensive to be kept up.
Official site about Uma:
We are launching the most inspirational and exciting entertainment and communication company in the UK so it’s only fitting that we’ve got the help of an iconic actress. Uma is renowned for slaying the opposition in Kill Bill and we feel that her involvement perfectly reflects Virgin Media’s challenge to its competitors.
