A HOLLYWOOD seal of approval from actress Uma Thurman has seen sales of a pair of pearl earrings from a Crouch End jeweller soar.
The Kill Bill star was so enamoured with the 18ct gold danglies she wore in a BBC drama she sent a handwritten note to Lomas Contemporary Jewellery Gallery, which now stands in pride of place in their boutique in Broadway Parade.
Designer and co-owner Helen Davenport said: “To me it doesn’t matter if it’s a Hollywood star or a local person. It is always our aim to make people happy. We have sold quite of few of the earrings because of that note and they have become my standard thing now.
“We build up a good relationship with our customers and there are people we are close to because of that but not usually A-list Hollywood stars.”
The note from Thurman reads: “Mr Lomas, thank you for the beautiful earrings. I haven’t taken them off. Best, Uma.”
Co-owner Steve Lomas was asked to make an engagement ring for her role in My Zinc Bed in 2007. But the next day the 38-year-old actress was distraught to find her favourite pair of pearl studs had broken and asked him if he could also repair them.
“When I looked at them I realised there was nothing I could do because they were not very well designed,” said Ms Davenport.
“So instead I gave her these cream pearl drops and then just a few days later we get a letter saying she absolutely loved them and hadn’t taken them off.”
The earrings cost £225.
