The Kill Bill star is set to join Charlotte Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell and Stellan Skarsgard in the increasingly star studded movie.
Stacey Martin, Connie Nielsen and Christian Slater are also due to appear in the film, which will apparently be released in both ‘hardcore’ and ‘softcore’ versions, with the former encompassing genuine sex scenes.
It is as yet unclear what role Thurman will tackle, but it is the first time she has worked with the Danish director, who is well known for his harsh methods and provocative films.
Gainsbourg will feature as middle-aged nymphomanic Joe, who is found bruised and beaten in an alley by Skarsgard’s character. She then reveals her entire sexual history to him through a series of flashbacks.
Nymphomaniac is set to be released some time in 2013, and is also likely to be premiered at the Cannes film festival.
Speaking in August, Transformers star LaBeouf said: ‘Nymphomaniac is what you think it is. It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he’s making.
‘For instance, there’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.’
