    Uma Thurman to star in BBC play

    Uma Thurman, Rhys Ifans and Tom Wilkinson are to star in two film adaptations of acclaimed stage plays to be shown on BBC Two.

    Thurman will star with Jonathan Pryce and Paddy Considine in David Hare’s My Zinc Bed, which has been adapted by the playwright for television.

    Wilkinson and Ifans will star as father and son in Caryl Churchill’s A Number.

    The films – jointly backed by the BBC and US network HBO – will be shown later this year.

    “The single play is an integral part of the overall BBC drama picture,” said Jane Tranter, controller of BBC Fiction.

    “We’re delighted that this year plays from David Hare and Caryl Churchill, two of the UK’s most proflic and significant playwrights, have found their home on BBC Two.”

    My Zinc Bed tells the story of penniless but gifted poet Paul Peplow, a recovering alcoholic who is sent to interview wealthy internet entrepreneur Victor Quinn.

    Paul finds himself employed by Victor and subsequently encounters his employer’s wife Elsa, herself a recovering alcoholic and a kindred spirit.

    A Number follows a father and son’s relationship which is brought into question when the son learns he is one of an unidentified number of clones.
